The union is a business. Their main source of income is the dues they collect from their members. A portion of the dues that a local union office collects is paid up to the National Headquarters. Last year alone, the Teamsters National Headquarters collected over $200 million dollars from the locals. Out of that money collected, they spent $42.9 million on benefits for the officers and employees of the National Headquarters. This includes their healthcare and retirement benefits.
